Mission Team

I visited a mission project this morning that is a partnership effort of Watson Memorial Baptist Church of Louisville, Beacon Hill Baptist Church of Somerset, and First Baptist Church, Mt. Washington. With the help of a 20 person mission team from Beacon Hill Baptist Church, Watson Memorial is converting their old parsonage into a home for International Mission Board missionaries on stateside assignment. FBC, Mt. Washington, will be helping furnish the house.

Stateside assignments typically last from 6-12 months so missionary families need good housing that is furnished and ready for immediate occupancy. Under the leadership of Pastor Kevin Smith, Watson Memorial is a primarily African American congregation with a heart for the nations. Pastor John Mark Toby of Beacon Hill Baptist Church is also leading a very mission minded church.

Although FBC, Mt. Washington, is currently without a senior pastor, staff members Nate Young and John David Trentham haven’t missed a beat in providing Great Commission leadership. This project is one of several that the church is currently undertaking. These three churches understand that reaching the nations can be facilitated in some very practical ways by partnering together right here at home.
